Easy Chocolate Cake Pops
The cake pops you often spot in bakeries or at parties are a dessert beloved by both young and old. And, believe it or not, they are very easy to make.
You can make them from store-bought or homemade sponge cake, from leftover cake (such as from making a Milk Slice Cake), or even from cake batter that didn’t turn out as expected. You can also use chocolate sponge, vanilla sponge, or even banana bread if you’re looking for a vegan option.
Glaze them with chocolate, add sprinkles—colored or chocolate—or coconut flakes and you get a fabulous dessert!

Easy Chocolate Cake Pops
Ingredients
For the sponge batter:
- 5 eggs
- 100 g granulated sugar
- 25 ml oil
- 130 g flour
- 1 tbsp vanilla essence
- 30 g cocoa
- 10 g baking powder
To form the balls:
- 150 ml liquid whipping cream (or heavy cream) add gradually and adjust according to consistency
For the topping:
- 20 g melted chocolate
To decorate:
- Sprinkles, coconut flakes, ground nuts, etc.
Instructions
- Place all the ingredients for the chocolate sponge cake in a bowl. Mix until you get a smooth and creamy mixture.
- Pour onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper (the size of the sheet doesn’t really matter because you will crumble all the baked cake anyway) and bake for 25-30 minutes at 180 °C/356 °F or until the dough is firm on the surface. Allow to cool.
- Melt the chocolate in a steam bath.
- Crumble the cake finely between your hands. Gradually pour in the cream, making sure the mixture is not too thin but soft enough to shape into balls. Knead until you feel you have a good consistency.
- Shape 3-4 cm (1-1½ inch) balls and dip them in melted hot chocolate.
- Dip the balls in sprinkles or coconut flakes etc.
- Refrigerate for at least 2-3 hours before serving.
- Stick lollipop sticks, straws, toothpicks or short skewer sticks into each candy and, ta-daaa, you have some delicious cake pops!
